So recently I got some interesting and fantastic news. My first photo exhibition is opening in the Spring in my home town, and in light off getting the photos printed, framed and advertised, some opportunities have arisen. While I'm thrilled about it all, a problem arises. If I'm going to break out into this business seriously, I need a name. So far every photo I've posted online has been under my pen name 'Ember Lee'. It's watermarked across a majority of my photos and I've become attached to it. But do I continue using this name or my real name? It may seem like a simple question to some of you, but it's rather difficult for me. So, tell me your opinion. It'd be most appreciated :)

ISO, Depth of Field, Focus

So this week I focused on those three things. I'm happy to say that I'm starting to get the hang of ISO, but aperture is still a bit of a mystery to me.
The neighbours must think I'm nuts though. All my pictures were taken in my front yard, and close to the fence line, and since I was using a long lens for some of my pictures, I might have looked like a creepy stalker. I assure you, I'm not. People photography is a little ways down the line just yet.
Anyway, all the pictures have been uploaded and I'm rather proud of them. Especially the spiderweb ones. I really didn't think I'd get those.
Aside from this, I don't have much to say about them. Now I'm off to clean up the mess the earthquake has left throughout my flat. Tell next week!

It has begun. After a lot of reading and experimenting, my New Year's Resolution has been kicked into gear. A part of me winces when I see my 'best' pictures of this week as I feel they're nothing compared to my usual standard (that and I didn't realise how dirty my lens were), but that's the whole point of this exercise. At the end of this month, I'll be putting up my first video on Youtube of my best pictures of the month and a simple introduction of my goal. It's going to be interesting.
So, to help me on this journey, share your advice, give critic and suggest locations (New Zealand based) that I could shot!

It's that time of year again, and even though I'm a tad late to jump on the bandwagon (well, at least where I live), I've finally decided on a new year's resolution. To improve my photography.
The reason?
Well, after I've finished earning my degree, I really want to get into journalism, especially photojournalism. My top goal is to have something featured in a National Geographic magazine. But to achieve this, I need to get back into my photography. I see a lot go pics that make me go 'hold my beer, I can do that', so I've devised a plan:
Back to Basics.
Every Sunday (weather depending), I aim to travel somewhere close to where I live and take pictures, learning more about photography and camera functions, etc, etc. I aim to have the pictures up by the next day at the latest. By this time next year I hope to look back over my photos and see some improvement.
Now, you guys can help me by critiquing, suggesting locations or simply helping me towards achieving my goal. I'd really appreciate it if you could.
So, yeah. That's my goal. I'll be posting up a lot of pictures over this year (starting with ones I've already taken), so sorry in advance for spamming your newsfeed. I'm also putting this on Facebook, Flickr and Youtube, as well as blogging about what I've learnt. I really hope I can stick to this goal. Let's see where this year takes me :)

It's frustrating me. Every time I start a sketch, it kinda looks relaxed, natural and fluid. But after a while, I lose this. End results look stiff and too posed. Is there anyway I can make my characters look more relaxed in pose and more natural? I've tried that whole 'curve' thing, where you draw a curve as to center it with their imagined center of gravity and all, and they still turn out like statues. Take my latest drawing for example, 'My Little Birdy'. It started out fine, but once I had finished it, it looked wrong. Is it in the shading? The facial expressions? How I've drawn the clothing? What? It's rather annoying.
So I was wondering, does anyone have any tips or suggestions, or know any good links that could help me? I've tried searching myself, but nothing is really coming up.
